Biographical / Historical
Guido Merkens was born on 25 May 1927 in Aberdeen, South Dakota. He graduated from Concordia College, Bronxville in 1946 and from Concordia Seminary, Saint Louis in 1951. From 1953 to 1964 he was a member of the Education and Mission Board for the Texas District. He then became the vice-president of the Texas District. In 1965 he joined the LCMS's Board for Missions. From 1970 to 1971 he was again the vice-president of the Texas District. He then served the LCMS as its fifth vice-president (1971), fourth vice-president (1972), and third vice-president (1973).
