Biographical / Historical
Frederick Mayer was born on 5 November 1892 in New Wells, Missouri. He attended Concordia College, Milwaukee and graduated from Concordia Seminary, Saint Louis in 1915. For ten years (1915 to 1925) he was the pastor of parishes in Sherrard and Kewaunee, Illinois. From 1926 to 1937 he taught at Concordia Seminary, Springfield; from then until his death in 1954 he was a professor at Concordia Seminary, Saint Louis, teaching primarily in the field of systematic theology. Form 1932 to 1938 he was a member of the Committee on Higher Education, secretary of the Committee on Curriculum for Higher Institution of Learning from 1935 to 1938, and chair of the Board for Parish Education for 1940 to 1944. He was also the assistant editor and managing editor of the Concordia Theological Monthly.
