Biographical / Historical
Walter H. Wente was born on August 1, 1894 in Germanicus, Ontario, Canada.He received an A.B. degree in 1911 from Northwestern College (Watertown, Wisconsin). He attended Concordia Semeinary (Saint Louis, MIssouri) from 1911-1914. He was ordained into the ministry on August 12, 1917 at Zion Lutheran Church (Crete, Illinois). He received a M.A. in 1918 from the University of Chicago, Department of New Testament Literature and Language in 1918. He received a Ph.D. in Greek and Latin from the University of Chicago as well in 1932, and in 1962, a D.D. Honorary Doctorate from Concordia Seminary (Saint Louis, Missouri). He married Pauline Scaer on August 30, 1924 in Winfield, Kansas. She died in 1982. He was an instructor/dorm counselor at Saint John College (Winfield, Kansas) from 1914-1917, and an instructor at Michigan LUtheran Seminary (Saginaw, MIchigan) from 1917-1922. He was a professor at Saint John College (Winfield, Kansas) from 1922-1956. He was a visiting instructor at Concordia Seminary (Saint Louis, Missouri) during several summers. He served as an academic dean and humanities professor at Concordia Senior College (Fort Wayne, Indiana) from 1956 until his retirement in 1977. Walter Wente died on July 9, 1992 in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
