Biographical / Historical
Kumnick was born 12 March 1891 at Forest Park, Illinois, the son of Karl and Otilie (nee Ross) Kumnick. He graduated from Concordia Seminary (Saint Louis) in 1914 and was ordained 26 July 1914 at Saint John Lutheran Church, Forest Park. He served parishes at Power and Farmington, Montana, then was a chaplain at the U.S. Naval Training Station (Great Lakes, Illinois) during World War 1. From 1919 to 1927 he served a parish in Missoula, Montana. In 1927 he became dean of students at Valparaiso University and from 1942 until 1956 he was a professor and head of the religion department at the university. He died in Phoenix, Arizona, on 29 June 1965.
