John Henry Hohengarten Papers
Scope and Contents
The collection contains congregational history, correspondence, photographs and baptismal certificates. It includes photographs; the early history, official acts (1934-1939) and other records of Trinity Lutheran Church (Van Buren, Arkansas); and a photo album from Hohengarten's student days at Concordia College (Fort Wayne, Indiana: 1921-1928).

Biographical / Historical
Hohengarten was born 18 February 1908 in Saint Louis, Missouri, the son of John and Minna Schlueter Hohengarten. He graduated from Concordia Seminary (Saint Louis) in 1931 and served parishes in Fort Smith and Van Buren, Arkansas; Susanville and Downey, California. He was an institutional chaplain in the Southern California District from 1967 to 1971. He died 16 December 1978 at Downey, California, and was buried at Whittier, California. He was survived by his wife, Lorena Long Hohengarten, and sons John and Karl.
