Biographical / Historical
Hoard was born 16 April 1927 at Saint Louis, Missouri, the son of Robert Lee Hoard and Leah Belle (Brown) Hoard. He graduated from Concordia Seminary, Saint Louis, in 1957. He served as a missionary at large for the Atlantic District in Brooklyn, New York, from 1958 to 1960 and as associate pastor of Our Savior Lutheran Church, Brooklyn, from 1960 to 1965. From 1965 to 1970 he was on active duty as a chaplain in the U.S. Army, serving in Vietnam from 1967 to 1968. He was pastor of Our Savior Lutheran Church, Orlando, Florida, from 1972 to 1992, when he retired from parish ministry. From 1992 to 2002 he worked for the Orange County, Florida, School Board as a teacher at the Orange County Jail, teaching ESOL and GED classes for inmates and doing some counseling. He died 30 November 2007 in Orlando.
