Scope and Contents
The collection contains papers, scrapbooks, books and notebooks, correspondence, articles, photographs, and manuscripts, including one for "The Voice of Our Church in the Doctrine of the True Visible Church". It also contains a bound book of annotations on Baier's Compendium. The correspondence includes a file on Hemmeter's service on the LCMS Fiduciary Committee on Matters of Doctrine and Practice, 1938-1941, a forerunner of the Advisory Committee on Doctrine and Practice and the Commission on Theology and Church Relations.

Biographical / Historical
Henry Hemmeter was born in 1870 in Baltimore. He served the congregations of Our Savior in Baltimore, Saint Andrew and Trinity in Pittsburgh, Bethlehem in Saint Louis, and Saint Matthew in Rochester, New York. He served as the president of both Concordia College, Conover, North Carolina and Concordia Theological Seminary, Springfield from 1936 to 1944. He died on 22 July 1948.
