The document in this collection is an autobiography by the eighteen-year-old Heitmann. It describes his youth and education, his immigration and life in the U.S. and his decision to go to school to become an "Apostle of the Lord Jesus."

Heitmann was born 23 May 1854 in Ostervesede, Hannover. He was confirmed in 1869 by a Pastor Raeber at Scheessel and immigrated to the U.S. No other information about him has been discovered in the Institute's collection.
