Biographical / Historical
Hafner was born 19 January 1891 at Goeglein, Indiana, the son of Teacher John Martin Ludwig Hafner and Dorothea nee Juergens. He was educated at Concordia College, Saint Paul, Minnesota, and graduated from Concordia Seminary, Saint Louis, Missouri, in 1915. He was ordained 19 September 1915 at Santa Barbara, Isle of Pines, Cuba, and served there until 1918. The rest of his ministry was spent in Louisiana and Alabama. He held several positions in the Southern District of the LCMS, including second and first vice-president. He died 25 April 1972 at Mobile, Alabama, where he is buried.
