Biographical / Historical

Martin August Paul Haendschke was born 26 October 1914 at Milwaukee, Wisconsin, the son of Pastor Richard Haendschke. He studied at Concordia College, Milwaukee, and graduated from Concordia Seminary Saint Louis, Missouri, in 1938. He was ordained in October 1938 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, East Boston, Massachusetts, and served there as pastor, as well as at Marblehead, Massachusetts; Detroit, Michigan; and Ascension Lutheran Church, Saint Louis (1949-1964). In 1964 he joined the faculty of Concordia College, Milwaukee. From 1975 until his death he taught at Concordia Seminary, Saint Louis, specializing in counseling. He earned doctoral degrees from Concordia Seminary, Saint Louis, in 1961 and from Marquette University, Milwaukee, in 1967. He served on the LCMS Board for Home Missions (1948-1949), the General Church Extension Board and the LCMS Board of Parish Services Standing Committee on Family Life and Bible Study. He died 4 July 1984.
