Biographical / Historical
Dolores Jean Hackwelder was born in Pittsburgh, PA on 8 December 1928. She entered the deaconess program at Valparaiso University in the fall of 1948 and graduated on 1 June 1952 with a B.A. in theology and psychology. She was consecrated as a deaconess at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Oakmont, PA in 22 June 1952, and was installed in September 1952 at Emmaus Lutheran Church, Saint. Louis, MO to work with the Saint Louis City Mission Association. She served as a deaconess at the mission until 1957, at which time she moved back to Pittsburgh and never resumed deaconess work.
