Biographical / Historical
Arnold Grumm was born on 16 October 1893 in Madison, Wisconsin. He graduated from Concordia Seminary (Saint Louis) in 1916. He served as pastor at Bethlehem Congregation in Garrison, North Dakota until 1926 and Grace Church in Fargo, North Dakota until 1956, when he was elected vice-president of the Lutheran Church−Missouri Synod. Successively he served as circuit counselor in 1924, chair of the North Dakota District's Finance Committee, chair of its Mission Board, and president of the district from 1924 to 1950, when he was elected fourth vice-president of the Lutheran Church−Missouri Synod. In 1951 he served at the Bad Boll conference in Germany. In 1956 he helped to organize the idependent India Evangelical Lutheran Church. In 1958 he twice visited and helped churches in Brazil and Argentina. He then served as the chair of the synod's Survey Commission. Grumm died on 26 September 1959.
