Biographical / Historical
Jehn was born 1 May 1851 at Prische, Prussia. He came to the U.S. with his family at about age 10 and settled in Wisconsin. In 1871 he enlisted in the famous U.S. 7th Cavalry and served in Kansas, Texas and Indian Territory. Following his discharge in 1876 he returned to Wisconsin and in 1877 entered Concordia Theological Seminary at Springfield, Illinois. He graduated in 1880 and served as a pastor at Zanesville and Van Wert, Ohio; Kansas City, Missouri; and Klinger, Iowa. He retired from the ministry in 1898, applied for a military pension and was employed by a produce company in Iowa. Later he lived with his son, Ernst, also a pastor, in Chicago. At the time of his death on 8 April 1945 he was living near his daughter, Bertha, in the Denver, Colorado, area.
