Biographical / Historical
Johann Heinrich Philip Graebner was born on 7 July 1819 in Burghaig, Bavaria to Johann Heinrich Philip, a music teacher, and his wife Anna Rehm. He studied theology under Wilhelm Löhe at Neudettelsau before coming to America in 1847 as the pastor of the Frankentrost colony. In 1853 he left Frankentrost to answer a call in Roseville, Michigan, where he also served congregations in Mount Clemens. He served these congregations until 1859, when he answered a call in Saint Charles, Missouri. He served that church for thirty years. He retired because of health reasons in 1889 and moved to Saginaw, Michigan. He died there on 27 May 1898.
J.H. Philip was married to Jacobina Denninger in 1848 and together they had seven children: Augustus, Johann, William Heinrich, Regina, Carl, Kunigunde, and William L.
