Biographical / Historical
August Graebner was born on 10 July 1849 in Frankentrost, Michigan. He attended Concordia College, Fort Wayne from 1864 to 1869. He completed his studies at Concordia Seminary, Saint Louis from 1869 to 1872. He taught at Lutheran High School in Saint Louis from 1872 to 1875. He then became a professor of Latin, English, and History in Watertown, Wisconsin, then of Theology at the Wisconsin Synod Seminary, Wauwatosa from 1878 to 1887, and finally of History at Concordia Seminary, Saint Louis from 1887 to 1904. He was also the assistant pastor at Saint Matthew in Milwaukee from 1879 to 1887. He served the Synod by being a member of the Board for Foreign Missions for many years. Graebner died on 4 December 1904.
