Biographical / Historical
The Graebner family played an important role in the early years of the Missouri Synod. Johann Heinrich Philip Graebner (1819 to 1898) emigrated from Germany in 1847. Under the direction of Wilhelm Loehe, he established Frankentrost, Michigan and served as its pastor. His son, Augustus Lawrence Graebner (1849 to 1904), held the chair of Church History at Concordia Seminary, Saint Louis. His son, Theodore Conrad Graebner (1876 to 1950), followed in his father's footsteps and became a professor at Concordia Seminary, Saint Louis, writing prolifically on ecclesiastically related materials.
