Rev. Wilhelm Hattstaedt began church work at Immanuel in the early 1840s. The church was organized in 1850. Closely associated with Immanuel parish was Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Ida, Michigan. Records of the two congregatins are found together in the records of Immanuel.
