Physical Description

This is a brass medal (2.5cm diameter) commemorating the 400th anniversary of the Reformation. The obverse shows a quarter bust (right) of Martin Luther in Talar with tied collar. The legend reads: "Martin Luther - 1483-1546". The reverse shows a full figure of Martin Luther in monk's habit with hammer in his right hand and ninety-five theses in his left hand and stepping up to the church door of the Castle Church in Wittenberg. There are two columns with putto on each side. There is also a Luther-rose to the left and an open Bible to the right. The legend reads: "Quadricentennial of the Reformation". (R 1917-21)
