  • #1 - This is an unsigned example of the "Trompe l'oeil" style of art. There are various references to the mid-18th century dates including a "Plan de la Bataille de Kesseldorf, Die 15.Decemb. MDCCXLV". (60cm x 52cm)
  • #2 - Tempera or watercolor painting with a woman and boy with goats and a cow by a stream (59.5cm x 45cm)
  • #3 - Tempera or watercolor painting of a shepherd with a dog and others in the distance (59.5cm x 45cm)
  • #4 - Tempera or watercolor painting of neoclassical subjects - a large tree on a rock outcropping with three ladies bathing by a waterfall playing flute and tamborine. (63.7cm x 51.2cm)
  • #5 - This is an unsigned, unframed, unidentified ink and watercolor drawing of the interior of a church (cathedral). The image shows a detailed interior including a side altar with vaulted ceiling and a raised pulpit. (82cm x 51cm)


  • #8 - Water-color and ink drawing with a small castle ruin, a river, and two men amidst a natural landscape. A note on the matte border states perhaps "Darmstadt." (47cm x 31cm)
  • #9 - Ink drawing on gray paper and matted of a blindfolded Jesus being struck. Has "Portefeuille No. 50 Dessein No. 9" written on the reverse. (13cm X 15cm)
  • #10 - Pencil and ink drawing with a cardtock matte - a community scene with five people near a gate yard. Inscription states, "Defriches à Orleans 1763". (probably Aignan-Thomas Desfriches) (7 1/4" x 6 1/4" on 11" x 15" matte) (The reverse also has a light sketching of a community scene by a watermill.)
  • #11 - Pencil and ink drawing with a cardstock matte. Man crossing a bridge going to a house. Inscription states, "Desfriches à Orleans 1763". (probably Aignan-Thomas Desfriches) (7" x 5" on 39cm x 29cm matte)
  • #12 - Color landscape with a castle atop a rocky outcrop rising above a quiet river. (59cm x 44cm)
  • #13 - Color landscape with broad sweeping hills, a small ruin, and a river flowing across. A later notation on the matte reads "Faber". (52cm x 36.5cm)
  • #14 - Color painting with added notation on reverse, "die Stadt Kirche in Treuburg bey Naumburg von C. B. Schwarz", 1791? (perhaps Carl Benjamin Schwarz) (64.5cm x 50cm)
  • #15 - Watercolor or tinted ink drawing mounted on heavy paper with shepherds tending their animals around an ancient "Roman" ruin signed by Schwarz, 1790. (66cm x 52cm)


  • #17 - Peasant kneeling at a roadside shrine (chapel). Signed "Schwarz, 1791". A note on the reverse reads "Sogenannt Marter Scüle bey Erfurt auf dem Wege nach Gotha?, von C. B. Schwarz". (42cm x 49.5cm)
  • #18 - Detailed and precise ink drawing of a wooded riverside with two boats and a small settlement, three fisherman on the opposite shore, and perhaps a church in the distance. It is signed A. Zingg, 1765 (Adrian Zingg) (30cm x 22.5cm)
  • #19 - Ink drawing on heavy stock matte. This is an image of the Königstein Festung. A note in the lower right states "Königstein in Sachsen." The work is signed "A. Zingg del. 1767". (47cm x 31cm)
  • #20 -India ink brush in umber? The image depicts a family near a river by a dirt road. The river has a small waterfall. Further upriver there are some shepherds with their sheep. This is all set in a surrounding woodland. The artist notation states, "A. Zingg, inv. 1771". [Adrian Zingg, 1734-1816]
  • #21 - Sepia Watercolor? The image is of two people in a forest glade with sheep by a river flowing to the foreground. There is a thatch house on the right and a large pine on the left with hilly terrain in the background. An earlier appraisal guess this may be another work by A. Zingg. There is no visibile identifying mark. (51cm x 64cm)
  • #22 - Color painting. Lower left text reads, "Hartmann et I: Stuntz Fect 1787". The lower right text reads, "Se frouve a Bienne chez les Auteurs." Text on an overlay frame reads "1re Vue de l'isle St. Pierre sur le Lac de Bienne, p. Stuntz". The picture is a view of St. Peter Island in Lake Biel in Switzerland. (45cm x 31cm)
  • #23 - Colored ink landscape drawing of a fast running stream near an arched stone bridge and tower with travelers in the middle distance and a mountain peak far off. A notation on the matte states, "Griesmann". (33.5cm x 43cm)
  • #24 - Pencil or charcoal drawing of a millhouse and surrounding area: signed Schütze. (34.5cm x 28cm)
  • #25 - India ink brush in umber? The image is a cave with a large urn resting on a slab at the entrance. The cave is covered with vines and in the distance is a mausoleum. Below the picture is the name "Vernette" which is perhaps Claude-Joseph Vernet. (30cm x 21cm)
  • #26 - Tinted ink or watercolor drawing entitled "Prospect aus der Wassen Capelle auf St. Gotthardsbuerg, J. Rod. Schellenberg, fec." (Johann Rudolf Schellenberg) (22cm x 19cm with matte 27cm x 37cm)
  • #27 - This is an image of a Lion fighting three cheetahs (or leopards) for the carcass of an Elk. The picture has an artist signature, "Joh Neuhauser, pinx. 1801". (51cm x 62.7cm)
  • #28 - Watercolor of a hilly river valley with a house and various people. There is an unclear word on the matting which looks like Tiebeligt or Tiebelif. (10" x 7.5")
  • #29 - Colored ink drawing mounted and faux framed. The picture appears to use the pointillism technique. The image is of a man sitting on an overturned basket with a glass drink in hand, a chest of drawers behind him, and an overturned basket in front of him which holds a vase. In the corner states, "Joseph Ignatius Faber, Lieutenant in Saltzburg fec:" (23.6cm x 28.5cm)
  • #30 - A Shepherd Resting in the Shadow as Cattle and Goats Are Grazing near a castle ruin. A notation indicates "Veith." This work matches an item on MutualArt.com by Johann Veith (1768- 1837). (48cm x 60.5cm)
  • #31 - Ink and wash drawing of a stone well. The reverse has a notation, "??? von E. Fr. v. ??????, im Dec. 1762". (29.5cm x 33cm)
  • #32 - Detailed landscape includes a path, bridge, waterfall, several characters, and perhaps a Greek home set amid rolling hills. The artist is not immediately obvious. The upper right corner has CWKT in in. And a notation under the picture has C. W. Klugel (or Kobell).
  • #33 - Watercolor of a farmstead on a hillside overlooking a valley plain set near a small stream with a boy fishing near livestock. On the mounting is the name "Klengel" which may be Johann Christian Klengel. (48cm x 31.5cm)
  • #34 - Watercolor on heavy stock - landscape with man and boy walking toward a heavy rain shower. A pencil mark on the matte suggests "Klengel" as the artist. (33cm x 36cm)
  • #35 - Image of a group of people tending a herd of goats and cows at water's edge in a hilly valley. Signed: "Klengel, J. 1783" (51cm x 60cm)
  • #36 - Ink wash drawing. Shepherd tending his animals with the moon over a lake. The note states, "Jos: Havle invenit et delin." (perhaps Josef Havle) (23cm x 29cm)
  • #37 - A pencil drawing depicting a river scene with nearby shoreline with buildings. Signed by Fentzsch (perhaps F. G. Fentzsch). The phrase "Feb 1778" appears on the backing. (26cm x 22cm)
  • #38 - A tinted ink or watercolor drawing perhaps entitled "Die Brück gegen das Herrnhaus in Wahren bey Leipzig" "von Reinhardt." (33cm x 22cm)
  • #39 - Ink with brown wash (?) image of children playing inside a newly built brick wall which is perhaps a protective city wall overlooking the Zwinger-zwischen (space between the outer and inner city walls). A phrase on the reverse states, "Kinder im Zwinger-zwischen dem Hällischen Thore und der Zuchthaus-Baltey, zu Leipzig; abges. von E. Fr. v. Kregel, im Jun 1765". A name on the matte states "A. Rosmäsler" which is perhaps August Roßmäßler (Johann August Rossmäßler).
  • #40 - Tinted ink or watercolor picture of a townscape with a small river and walking bridge leading to the countryside. The picture is matted on heavy grey paper and has the name "Rosmäsler" which is perhaps August Roßmäßler (Johann August Rossmäßler). (37cm x 30cm)
  • #41 - Tinted ink drawing matted on heavy grey paper. The drawing shows a horse and buggy on a country road leading away from a rural church. The name on the matte is "Rosmaesler" which is perhaps August Roßmäßler (Johann August Rossmäßler). (30cm x 37cm)
  • #42 - Tinted ink townscape somewhat haphazardly mounted to a preprinted frame. The work shows multiple buildings of the town center (with church) in the background. In the foreground is a small stream with men fishing and others standing nearby. In light pencil on the frame there appears to be the name "v. Kregel." The reverse side has various sketchings and the name Rosmasler. (28cm x 20cm)
