Physical Description

Accession #: AUG 2022 #31. The obverse has a smooth shallow bowl shape with black lettering (SAINT PAUL'S CATHEDRAL - BUFFALO, NEW YORK) and hash marks around the outer rim. the inner plate has a black image of the edifice and two crests. One contains the text, Dominus Potens Super Sonitum Aquarum Multarum. The second seal contains the following text, Sigill Dioecesis Novi Eboraci Occident, AD, MDCCCXXXVIII. The reverse contains the following text

  • SAINT PAUL'S EPISCOPAL CHURCH
  • Upon this site was built, in 1819, the first permanent church edifice erected in Buffalo. It was removed in 1850 to make way for the present stone church.
  • This site was given by the Holland Land Company to Saint Paul's Church, and was the first land owned in Buffalo by a religious organization.
