Chaplain Communion Set
Description
- Silver Paten: 5.5" diameter with a slightly recessed plate and an etched cross on the rim (E842, International Sterling)
- Gold Paten: 5.75" diameter with a slightly recessed plate and "U.S." etched on the back
- Two Glass Cruets: 4" tall and 2.5" diameter at the base - with a broken cross-topped stopper
- Glass Cruet Tray: 9" long X 4.25" wide X 1" deep (broken)
- Silver Flagon: 8.75" tall, 5.125" diameter at the base, 3.75" at the lip - with a silver cross on the base and "U.S." under the base
- Gold Ciborium Insert: Half-circle, 4" diameter bowl with a hooked rim so that it hangs inside the flagon bowl (1.375" deep)
- Reinforced Portable Communion Case: Black, 12" X 11.5" X 7" with blue lining and "U.S." under the handle

Biographical / Historical
This item was received from Alice Hedt. He states in a note that, "This is the communion set given to my husband, Fred Hedt, in Charlotte, NC, by Pastor Martin Baumgaertner. We know [Chaplain] Martin used it in the liberation of the concentration camps."
