Identifier: 71-6-GT-2119
Scope and Contents
This is an example of the intricate woodcarving done by the Igorot people of North Luzon. This heavy wood is known as ironwood. It has properties which enable the wood to heal any cracks which may occur. The carabao is the work animal of the Philippines. Used extensively throughout the lowlands as the farmers' "tractor and pick-up truck," the animal is believed to have no sweat glands and must soak in water and mud several times a day.
