Scope and Contents

This dramatic monochrome lithograph by Hungarian artist, Károly Lühnsdorf, portrays Martin Luther in a heavy coat holding a large bible. Luther's left hand securely guards the Scriptures, while his right hand is placed in a gesture of loyalty and unswerving faithfulness to the doctrines revealed by the prophets and apostles. The Latin inscription is taken from Psalm 118:17 - Non Moriar Sed Vivam et Narrabo Opera Domini [I shall not die, but live, and declare the works of the Lᴏʀᴅ].
