Biographical / Historical

Albert Bahr was born on June 2, 1924 in Bayshore, Long Island, New York. He was raised in the Methodist Church, but was confirmed in the LCMS when he was 15. He started at Concordia College, Bronxville, New York in 1941. He then attended Concordia Seminary, Saint Louis from 1944-1949. He met his wife Loide Cordes during his vicarage at Saint John Lutheran Church in Hillman, Michigan. They were married on June 26, 1949. Albert was ordained into the pastoral ministry on November 11, 1951 at St. Martini Lutheran Church in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He served congregations in Detroit, MI, Buffalo, NY, and Bergholz, NY. He also served as a circuit counselor for the LCMS Eastern District, secretary of the CCNY Board of REgents, and served as delegate to two LCMS Conventions. He was appointed acting president of the Eastern District in 1976, which lasted for two years. He was called to Saint John Lutheran Church in Port Hope, MI in 1981, and remained there for his last 10 years of full-time ministry. He accepted a call to Immanual Lutheran Church, Sebewaing, MI in 1992. He worked with the LCMS Michigan District's Older Adult Ministry program and founded Immanuel's OWLs (Older Wiser Lutherans), and served there until 2014. He received CCNY's Servant of Christ Award in 1994. Rev. Bahr died on November 20, 2021 at the age of 97. (This information was taken from his on-line obituary on reporter.lcms.org.)
