Scope and Contents
This collection contains Rev. Horn's sermons, writings, seminary course materials as a student, teaching materials from Japan and the United States. It also contains much professional and personal correspondence. There are both teaching materials and correspondence in Japanese.

Content Description
Rev. Clifford Wayne Horn was born on June 21, 1936 in Dallas, Texas. He began his theological education at the age of 13 at Concordia High School (Austin, Texas). He continued at Concordia Junior College (Austin, Texas), Concordia Seminary (Saint Louis, Missouri), and Perkins School of Theology (Southern Methodist University: Dallas, Texas). Rev. Horn served as a missionary to Japan, spending two years studying the Japanese language and culture, eight years as evangelistic missionary, served as pastor to several Japanese congregations and eight years at the Japanese Theological College and Seminary, serving as Director of the Theological Training Program for the Japanese Lutheran Church, Seminary Chaplain, and professor of World Religions. He also served as Vice-President of the Japanese Lutheran Church. When he returned to the United States, he served LCMS congregations in Stephenville, Texas; Granbury, Texas; and Houston, Texas. In 1988 he accepted the call to Concordia College (Portland, Oregon) to serve as the Director of International Studies Program and Professor of Religion. He was appointed Dean of the School of Arts and Sciences at Concordia, Portland in 1992. Rev. Horn died on April 25, 1994.
