Biographical / Historical

Mato Kosyk was born on 18 June 1853 in Lower Lusatia, Sorbia (Wend). He immigrated to the United States in 1883, and began his studies at Concordia Theological Seminary in Springfield, Illinois. After one academic quarter, Kosyk transferred to the German Lutheran Theological Seminary in Chicago Lawn, Illinois. Upon completion of his studies, Kosyk served congregations in Iowa, Nebraska, and Oklahoma. He retired in 1913, and died on 22 November 1940. He is best known for his writings, specifically as a Sorbian (Wendish) Poet.
