Biographical / Historical

This church was organized on April 17, 1892. On September 1, 1901, the first pastor, Rev. CH Lueker, was installed. Rev. Lueker served many other preaching stations as well until 1917 when he accepted a call to Rolla, North Dakota. The first house of worship was dedicated in 1907. In February 1940, it was decided to divide the parish - one at Courtenay, one at Clementsville. On August 4, 1941, the church building was destroyed by fire set by an electrical storm. In April 1942, the country and city congregations formally organized into one congregation, revising the existing Zion constitution and retaining the name of Zion Evangelaical Lutheran Church. A parsonage was purchased in November 1942. In 1950, services at the Clementsville mission were dropped, and those members joined Concordia, Jamestown or Saint Paul, Wimbledon. Zion, Courtenay and Saint Paul, Wimbledon became a dual parish in 1951.
